Why did you choose your career?
I studied cultural anthropology in college and went to law school thinking I would end up as an international human rights lawyer. Instead, after graduation I found myself at a global corporate firm in New York and then in LA reinvented as a startup attorney supporting the work of inventors, creators and innovators.

What is your favorite part of the day / job and your least favorite part of the day / job?
I like helping move forward all of the amazing work my colleagues are undertaking by negotiating their research or commercial agreements. I don’t like negotiating multiple people’s priorities at once. I don’t like having to prioritize different people’s needs – every project is a high priority!

What rules do you live by?
I pretty much break every rule I set for myself (it’s very frustrating). In anthropology there are theories about “taboo” and how something becomes much more alluring if it is off limits. I do try to generally avoid being a hypocrite, though.

When things get tough, how do you keep yourself going?
I never have to zoom out too far from daily frustrations to remind myself how truly psyched I am to be a part of building this incredible organization. We’re young and we’re growing, but those growing pains are where all the raw excitement and drive come from. I also find that, generally in life, a certain amount of blind hope can get you pretty far!

What do you find most rewarding about your work?
Interacting with smarter people knowing that there’s ownership in collaboration

If you knew then what you know now, what would you tell your 18-year-old self?
Slow down, enjoy the simplicity, and appreciate life more often.

What rules do you live by?
It’s more of a discipline where I’m aware of the impact both positively and negatively that my decisions and behavior affect others as well as myself.

When things get tough, how do you keep yourself going?
Knowing someone else is having a harder time due to circumstances beyond their control keeps me inspired to work through any challenge.

If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
Resilience, we all need to know how to fall, dust off, and get up stronger.
